What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
- Teachers identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students. We provide learning pathways, including enrichment and extension programs and acceleration.
- Our supportive classroom environments promote a sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity and collaboration.
- We provide tasks that promote choice, authenticity, and critical and creative thinking.
- Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners.

Students deepen strengths through academic competitions, creative writing groups, debating, competitions and STEM and coding pathways in clubs such as Robotics.
- Talent is celebrated through Eisteddfod competitions in dance and choir, art exhibitions, school performances.
- Leadership grows through SRC, Year 6 Leaders, Peer Support and GRIP (Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, People) leadership opportunities
- Daily life invites curiosity and belonging, with open library times and participation in the school gardening club
- Sport matters too, with PSSA sport, training and coaching that include differentiated physical education opportunities.
- The Prime Minister's Spelling Bee promotes our students’ vocabulary development and attention to detail in competitive settings.
- The Premier’s Debating Challenge helps our students to build logical arguments and confidence in public speaking.
- ICAS competitions helps develop critical thinking, problem solving skills, and a love for mathematics while providing opportunities for academic challenge and recognition.
- The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) promotes whole-school participation in physical activity with leadership pathways and professional learning.
- The Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events enable our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration.
- Participation in state-wide dance ensembles develops our high potential performance presence and physical expressiveness.
